Regarding your other post about Gimp errors, I think it is safe to conclude that your installation has been corrupted, leading to multiple issues. Not just your non-full installation of Slackware but also corrupted package archives you have used to upgrade.

Find a reliable source of packages, download that collection, run "upgrade --reinstall" on everything, and then create a list of all the Slackware packages you did not install. You will have to make the call yourselves, which ones you skipped that may now causing additional issues.
