Hi,

I'm having issues printing to a HP DeskJet 840C, which is attached to a Windows XP SP2 machine.

I'm trying to print using CUPS over samba. I have added the printer using the web gui on locahost:631. However when I try and print, it all goes wrong.

The test pages comes back with:
And jobs sent to the printer seem to vanish.

I have checked and the following line exists in /etc/cups/mime.conv

I can connect to the shared printer from other Windows machines, so I know it works over the network.

STFW didn't turn anything up.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

This is IPP rather than Samba. It works for me.

I've had a look at the link, but wanted to install my printer without running the HPLIP daemon (bit much for one measily Deskjet).

Does anyone else have experience of printing to a HP DeskJet without using HPLIP?

Hi all,

I managed to get it working!

After installing the ghostscript and gutenprint packages from the ap series on the CD, this now worked. I did not have to use the HPLIP utility.

I'm having a similar issue, only for me I upgraded to slackware 12.1 using slackpkg, and it broke. I tried reinstalling the ghostscript and gutenprint packages, but it doesn't seem to be working. Help?

Solved. Reinstalled the ap directory (wasn't sure what was needed, so I did it all). Forgot ldconfig. >.< Ran ldconfig, and tested printer. Works fine now.
