PIXMA MX490 Wireless Printer + Wireless Scanner

I setup my MX490 all-in-one and everything works as it should.
The only issue I have is Simple-scan is extremely slow scanning documents wirelessly. I have tested with a receipt so it does works just slow. I'm using Simple scan 3.24.1 because the newer versions require meson. How can I speed up the scanning process? Do I need to use some other scanner software? I looked into quiteinsane (gimp plug-in) but couldn't get it to build.

Have you tried Skanlite? It is part of KDE. I have been pretty happy with it. The scanning speed does depend on the resolution you set, so that is something to look into as well.

Skanlite doesn't require the full KDE set to run. I don't remember exactly, but it may just be kdelibs and libksane. What I do in such situations is install the package (skanlite in this case) and try to run it from the command line. When I encounter shared library errors, I use slackpkg file-search to find the package that contains them. Repeat until you have everything required.

I removed Simple scan and installed ScanGear 3.50 which was detected right away.

It's a whole lot faster than SS. Thanks, now everything works and speedy.
