Question pcmcia Token-Ring auto 16/4 help need

Hello Everyone,

Is anyone able to help me out with getting a pcmcia auto 16/4 token-ring card working?

I'm running slackware 9.1 with 2.4.25 with the latest pcmcia package. When the system boots cardmgr picks up the card as it should

"cardmgr[57]: socket 0: IBM Token Ring Adapter"

Then I get this

"ibmtr_cs: RequestWindow: Resource in use"

Now I've read the TR howto and the pcmcia howto and I'm aware I can adjust the mmiobase and the srambase in /etc/pcmcia/config.opts but for the life of me I just can't get it to work

an lsmod show the module loaded I get the beep from the laptop like it's trying to open the adapter but ifconfig is blank (except for lo) and from the "Resource in use" message I know it's not working. I have the card working on the windows side and I have the memory address I used there to avoid conflicts but i'm not sure how to translate those address over to what I can place in my

"modprobe ibmtr_ca mmiobase=xxx srambase=xxx"

Well I hope someone out there can help me out I’m coming up on 3 days trying to get this dumb thing to work. Thanks in advance for any reply or suggestions.

Regards,
Bobby

Hi, and welcome to LQ!!

My 770ED is long gone, and my TR is long gone, too...
but look at this one :)

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ight=TokenRing

I recall that I had to get the standalone version
of the PCMCIA package rather than using the
kernel (Yenta) stuff to get it to work, too...

Cheers,
Tink

Tinkster,

Thanks for the reply and the link. Maybe someone could help me understand how I should choose my memory range based on my /proc/iomem output. I kinda know how to read this and all but i'm still lost.

00000000-0009efff : System RAM
000a0000-000bffff : Video RAM area
000c0000-000c7fff : Video ROM
000d0000-000d0fff : card services
000f0000-000fffff : System ROM
00100000-017fffff : System RAM
00100000-002cf05a : Kernel code
002cf05b-00369b83 : Kernel data
c0000000-c0ffffff : Cirrus Logic GD 7543 [Viking]
c1000000-c1ffffff : Cirrus Logic GD 7543 [Viking]

in the howto http://www.linuxtr.net/documentation...l/drivers.html
in section (3.1.7.11) it explains that if i play around in /etc/pcmcia with config.opts that I should be able to pick a 16 or 64 k range (not sure which) to get it to load.

I just can't tell where the conflict is that is causing the "Resource in use message"

The line I'm playing with in that file is the
module "ibmtr_cs" opts "mmiobase=xxxxx srambase=xxxx"
But maybe it's the IO or irq I just can't tell where the problem is. "cardctl" does identify the card correctly and I tried another card (same type) and still have the same problem.

Thanks for any help,
Bobby

Have a look at the stuff in /proc, specifically
/proc/dma, /proc/iomem, /proc/ioports and
/proc/irq ...

Look at the output of dmesg ... I distinctly recall
that there were messages about version conflicts
regarding the cardloader/cardcontrol back then...

Those, too, got fixed by moving to the standalone
PCMICA package...

Cheers,
Tink
