Maybe this is slightly off-topic, but AFAIK for sound in Impress (or multimedia in OOo) jmf is required, a Java multimedia support library. The README file, that accompanies the SlackBuild script at SBo states that there is no 64-bit capability. So no multimedia with OOo in Slackware64, and probably not in Go-OO, too, correct?

It worked in Go-OO 3.1.1.
From Go-OO main page:

"Better functionality

Go-oo's user interface is more familiar, with lots of small pieces of polish. We have built-in (working) multimedia integration on Linux, a beautiful solver component, and your Chinese should look sane. We also integrate with your system better by default: eg. enabling native file-selectors on Linux...."

After a five-hour compile time, I now have Go-oo 3.1 built from the SlackBuild script at Slackbuilds.org. Thanks to Ponce for the tip on pointing to the correct library for Java.

I, too, am having trouble getting multimedia to work in Impress. I have Go-oo 3.1 and JMF from Slackbuilds.org installed.

Incidentally, the JMF build no longer has the note about lack of 64-bit compatibility. I have a pure 64-bit installation and JMF seemed to have built correctly.

Regards,

Well, I just use the pre-built binaries ... I hate waiting hours for it to compile. Either way I do see a noticeable difference is opening speed between openoffice and go-oo 3.2. Go-oo opens most documents instantly, openoffice takes about 2-5 sec longer.

I didn't mind the compile time, in fact I generally prefer software compiled on my machine (though I'm not a crazy fanatic about it).

So far Go-oo is fast and works very well.

Scratch that. After using it for a few weeks, I went back to regular old Open Office.

I had two major problems with Go-OO:
  1. The status bar kept drawing incorrectly or not drawing at all.
  2. The spell check as you type feature did not work.

I'll keep an eye on Go-oo, and possibly compile a newer version in the future, but for right now the standard OO.o from Slackbuilds.org works fine.

1) I would report that if it doesn't also happen in openoffice.

2) You should install this extension:
http://extensions.services.openoffic...ect/en_US-dict

that will fix it.

Neither problem happens with Open Office. I'll report it.

Well, technically #2 is because I think openoffice installs the dictionaries by default, and go-oo does not or it comes in the form of an extension .... because not everyone needs it.

That helps, actually. I wondered about that.
