Online storage that works with Linux

Can anybody recommend an online storage service that works with Linux and preferably Slackware?
Free would be nice but a small monthly fee is ok too.
I'm looking for an offsite storage to backup a small collection of files, mostly documents, maybe around 2Gb total and encryption would be probably required.
Nightly transfers would come from a Slackware 12.2 file server, but I can upgrade it to current version if needed.

See Dropbox if it fits your need. I have it installed at home to sync my office files. Available at slackbuilds.org

I agree, Dropbox is a good solution for people who need a small amount of storage.

SpiderOak seem to have a better track record of securing data than Dropbox, plus they're as cross-platform as Dropbox:

I'm in the process of writing a SlackBuild for SpiderOak (repackaging the binary only). They do provide a Slackware package for 32bit Slackware, but it's for 12.1.

If you're storing mostly small files you could also look at github.com. Paid accounts let you have private repositories (you could also encrypt with encfs before committing). And of course you get all the nifty benefits of using git.

I can't download dropbox source used for SlackBuild to install in my notebook's Slackware64-13.37

Change the $VERSION to 1.1.31 in the SlackBuild and $DOWNLOAD to http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropb...-1.1.31.tar.gz for 64-bit (or http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropb...-1.1.31.tar.gz fpr 32-bit) and it'll be fine.

My package is here: http://slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/dropbox-client/ (basically a re-packaging of the client binaries plus some additional sauce). The dropbox client (a menu-entry will be added to your menu) downloads the proprietary daemon the first time it starts. It integrates nicely with KDE and XFCE but I plan on adding a more complete support for KDE at least (allowing to restore previous versions of stored files from within the Dolphin browser), sometime soon.

Very nice, I just start the dropbox client and it downloaded and installed the most recent stable dropbox source.

hope not to be too much OT: in these days, I'm trying for fun owncloud (it works fine also with lighttpd's mod_webdav).
it's pushing me to build a webdavs capable pcmanfm (dolphin is already able to mount it).

Thanks to everyone who posted.
I'll try the Dropbox and Spideroak and will also research other cloud based options.
For now I just need a basic off-site storage option to backup a bunch of files.

I can fully recommend spideroak - works with a GUI or from the command line, everything is encrypted, and it works off the existing folder structure, been using their slack12 version without problems

I've been testing SpiderOak and have to say that I am very impressed. My needs are very small so there isn't much difference between the two options. Since you are on Slack and Alien_Bob has a package for Dropbox, that could be the easier option.

I installed spideroak but the application hangs at startup and disappears. It's not working with 13.37. Ideas how to fix it?
