nvidia geforce 6200 video card and xorg.conf

Hi. Thanx for Shilo and jetblackz SW install and config. notes. I have Asus AL1714 monitor and have installed the nvidia geforce 6200 driver. This monitor can handle 1280x1080 at 75hz with this card on w2k and ubuntu. On SW12.2's control center the display settings show 50 0r 54hz. The nvidia xserver settings show detected monitor(Al1714) at 60hz. Acquiring the EDID to a file didn't change the 60Hz. Does anyone have help for better setting up this card/monitor config? Thanx.

If you are using KDE, then what you describe sounds similar to the discussion here. The solution is described later in the thread.

nvidia geforce 6200 and Al1714 on kde

Thanx for leads, but I don't have the DynamicTwinView option in xorg.conf.to comment out. The nvidia forum suggests problem with driver and kde's(?) xrandr version. So I can ignore the kde control center 50-54hz persistent figure.
Clicking through the nvidia-setting applet revealed an "advanced" button giving a 75hz option to set with the detected AL1714 monitor at 1280x1024. It also appears that saving this setting caused the VideoRam number to be commented out in monitor section of xorg file. The desktop otherwise looks fine and after rebooting I don't need to hit the auto set button on the tft monitor to center the image.
Thanx again all

The option is not there by default. The solution found in the referenced thread was to manually add the option and disable.

I once used PowerStrip to export the information regarding the current resolution to a file, then wrote a modeline in xorg.conf based on the information obtained through PowerStrip.

This solved my native resolution no-go on my cheapo Tatung 42" LCD TV with no EDID stored on the TV.

Sorry for not going more into detail regarding exporting the information through PowerStrip but I've only done this once and forgot to bookmark the forum thread describing this.

Let me know if you don't figure it out on your own and I'll search around for it as soon as my schedule allows it.

woodsman and keslen thanx for replies. My desktop is fine now having been setup thru nvidia-config. program. Seems the Control center display setting don't matter. Checking in Ubuntu the nvidia configuration program similarly helps in detecting and setting the monitor settings. Both desktops kde and gnome are fine. Thanx again.
