no sound in slackware 10.2 with cmedia high definition audio device

I have an ASUS P5AD2-E premium mobo and it comes with on board sound. I cant get any sound to work in slackware, even after using alsaconf.

I have never used linux before so as you can guess i am totally stuck...

Any help would be great!!

also, the onboard Wi-fi is giving me grief aswell...

I was also wondering how to go about using my ATI X800XL graphics card to its full ability....

Open a new console and do the following:

basel@darkstar:~$ su
Password:
root@darkstar:/home/basel# alsamixer

Adjust the sound volume and make sure than you press M to turn the sound on and off for each View and then press Ctrl+C
The last step is to store you configurations:

root@darkstar:/home/basel# alsactl store
root@darkstar:/home/basel# exit
exit
basel@darkstar:~$

I tried that but it didn't work...

I'm using a digital coax output for the sound....could this be the problem???
