No sound after January 9th update

My sound no longer works after today's updates. I use the pulse audio plug-in for XFCE.

I can confirm this: seems related to the alsa updates as reverting to the previous versions (archived here) fixes it
Code:
alsa-lib-1.1.7-x86_64-2.txz
alsa-oss-1.1.6-x86_64-2.txz
alsa-plugins-1.1.7-x86_64-4.txz
alsa-utils-1.1.7-x86_64-1.txz

thanks Willy, that actually seems to solve my audio-muting issue with the recent updates.

EDIT: I just found this (I forgot about it)
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...te-4175640546/

as the block in alsa-plugins.SlackBuild is now
Code:
if [ "$VERSION" = "1.1.7" ]; then
  # Remove symlink that's breaking audio:
  rm -f $PKG/etc/alsa/conf.d/98-maemo.conf
fi
I would change the $VERSION check to 1.1.8 (or maybe just remove the check entirely)

Removing the /etc/alsa/conf.d/98-maemo.conf symlink worked for me without doing anything else. Thanks Willy!

Fixed here too. Here is the error output I found in /var/log/syslog.

Thanks so much for posting this.
Same issue here. Removed symlink and bounced to runlevel 1 and back to 3. Problem solved.

Pavuctrl

I have the latest updates on my current system, and observed the ' loss of audio ' after the Jan 9th updates. I removed the symlink, as others reported, and got audio back.

I have observed Pavuctrl no longer shows the audio playing underneath the VLC player audio stream in the display. I first noticed this after the alsa updated.

It is not a show stopper, just an observation. Anyone else see this?

I have both sets of updates install from Jan 9 th.
