Fixed here too. Here is the error output I found in /var/log/syslog.

I did not have to reboot. Just switch to run level 1 and back to run level 3.
I have the latest updates on my current system, and observed the ' loss of audio ' after the Jan 9th updates. I removed the symlink, as others reported, and got audio back.
I have observed Pavuctrl no longer shows the audio playing underneath the VLC player audio stream in the display. I first noticed this after the alsa updated.
It is not a show stopper, just an observation. Anyone else see this?
I have both sets of updates install from Jan 9 th.
Distribution: Slackware64-current with "True Multilib" and KDE4Town.
