No optical drives detected in Slackware 13.37

I upgraded to Slack 13.37 a couple of weeks back and just discovered my DVD drive is not detected, as root or user. No /dev/hd* of any sort. Mount command gets 'mount: special device /dev/hda does not exist'.
The drive works fine, just not being picked up in Slack.

I suspect I missed something during the upgrade from 13.1 to 13.37, but I'm stumped. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards...

CD/DVD devices are usually /dev/sr*

This is the ATA driver upgrade, all IDE devices will now appear as SCSI devices

Disks /dev/sd*
Optical /dev/sr*

Check the output of 'lsscsi'.

Or use udev's symlinks like /dev/cdrom, /dev/dvd, /dev/cdrw...

Does 'dmesg | grep ATAPI' show anything?

No, nothing in dmesg regarding ATAPI. Good call. I am running kernel 3.0.4, possibly missed something while configuring that, as well.

I'll re-install a stock kernel and see how it goes. Thanks to everyone, I may be back lol.

Added:
Stock kernel works fine, it was the PEBKAC virus of course. It's been a long day.
