Fixed after patching.
Apparently they renamed CONFIG_PERF_COUNTERS to CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS in 2.6.32. Hence vbox couldn't detect it.

Regards

They didn't actually rename it ... there are two options:
Code:
mingdao@silas64:~$ zgrep 'CONFIG_PERF' /proc/config.gz
CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS=y
CONFIG_PERF_COUNTERS=y
And you see that apparently I didn't hit the bug in VirutalBox
because I have them both built in. As it says in the kernel:
Quote:
Kernel performance counters (old config option) (PERF_COUNTERS)

CONFIG_PERF_COUNTERS:

This config has been obsoleted by the PERF_EVENTS
config option - please see that one for details.

It has no effect on the kernel whether you enable
it or not, it is a compatibility placeholder.
This is why I read the HELP on every NEW option when I build using
new kernel source ... because people coding apps such as VirtualBox
don't always check new kernel options and give us bugs.

Wow, Thanks Bruce, that's some good advice+info. Mine is actually not set. Maybe it got stripped while I did "localmodconfig" and then I didn't pay attention while revising with menuconfig. Usually I also read every HELP while building. Lesson learnt.

Code:
 $ zgrep 'CONFIG_PERF' /proc/config.gz
CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS=y
# CONFIG_PERF_COUNTERS is not set
Regards
