Newbie: Why does X take 99% CPU now?

I installed Slackware 10.0, kernel 2.4.26.

I wanted to login from my Windows box; installed Cygwin, Cygwin-X.

I removed the leading # from following on the slack box to allow remote logins:
/opt/kde/share/config/kdm/Xaccess:
* # any host can get a login window
* CHOOSER BROADCAST #any indirect host can get a chooser

And changed:
/opt/kde/share/config/kdm/kdmrc:
[Xdmrc]
# Whether KDM should listen to XDMCP requests. Default is true.
#Enable=false
Enable=true

When logged in to the box (in KDE) gkrellm showed about a 1% to 2% average. I typed 'xdm' once instead of 'kdm' on my slackware box. Now the slackware box shows 99% load in 'top' when X is running. ps shows the following command line for X:
/usr/X11R6/bin/X vt7 -auth /var/run/xauth/A:0-OxDT3F

What did I do? Where do I start to fix it?
