Nepomuk-enstein.

An interesting thing happened this afternoon. I booted up the computer, signed on, entered "startx" and the splash screen came up and froze. No hard disk activity and no icons in the panel in the center of the screen. I left it that way to get back to the football game and came back 20 minutes later to find nothing had changed.
Oh, BTW, I had previously, days ago, turned off, Akondai, Nepomuk, and Strigi.
I killed X with Ctrl, Alt, Backspace and tried "startx" again.
This time KDE (4.3.1) came up, but within seconds, in the lower right hand corner of the screen a window popped saying something about Nepomuk and that Strigi was indexing the files on the system.
Now how in the **** does it turn itself on when I had purposedly turned it OFF???!!!!
This whole KDE 4 thing is starting to smell entirely too much like winblows and if that is the case I might as well runs winblows..........
Ugh!

I don't know the cause of the problem, but I must agree. Even KDE 3 was too much for me. Way too much like Window$. I had to use GNOME for a while, then just fluxbox.

Nepomuk-enstein! HAHA!

I have been calling it *'Necromonger server' - maybe that was more correct than I knew!

But sadly, as you note, the whole KDE4 thing seems to be very disruptive of the peace we have previously enjoyed in Slack-istan.

Reminders:
1. "removepkg akonadi" works
2. To disable Strigi and Nepomuk
- in the K menu, choose System Settings (if you are not in kde, launch systemsettings in an xterm, konsole, whatever)
- in the Advanced tab, choose Desktop Search
- in the Basic settings, uncheck Enable Strigi Desktop File Indexer, uncheck Enable Nepomuk Semantic Desktop and hit Apply.
3. KDE-4.3.1 is not shipped with Slackware

Here KDE-4.2.4 works -- without Akonadi and with Strigi and Nepomuk disabled

Did you look at the logs (/var/log/messages, /var/log/syslog and /var/log/X.0.log) to diagnose your problem ? May be it has nothing to do with Akonadi, Strigi or Nepomuk

PS I am not a KDE user (I prefer Fluxbox) but have KDE-4.2.4 installed, use a few KDE applications and so far all goes well.

EDIT. Sorry but I didn't see this other thread you started before posting. Otherwise I would have only asked the question about diagnosis. Seems like when something go wrong, you don't spend so much time to understand what happened, do you ?
