need n00b totorials for HD install slack!

hi slack people,

i have winXP running on my laptop and i set my mind to doing dual boot.
one prob is i need to do HD install cause my cd-rw is screwed. another thing which might be a problem is that i DON'T have a floppy disk drive on laptop.

all you slack skilled people out in the wild, can you please postme some uber n00b turorial to solve this problem. (if there is a way that is)

i know how to do the partitioning, so you can leave that out (unless you want to be really nice and help out other people who also don't know that)

thx in advance

Well you are going to have a big problem if you want this. Because the hard part for you is not getting the files in place but to boot slack the first time. You can do this by cd or floppy, if i am correct you have neither? If you do have a cd-rom i suggest you ask a friend to download the iso and burn it for you.

I don't know if it will be possible to boot from the USB stick but give it a try. Unfortunately, if that doesn't work, then I do not believe you will be able to perform the installation. As Justin_Time stated, you must boot up Slack one way or another in order to start the installation process, and if you don't have a floppy, the CD is broken, and booting from the USB stick doesn't work, then you're pretty much out of options and your machine will simply boot the existing OS. Not having a usable CD drive would really limit the usability of your machine though, so my best recommendation to you would be to have it repaired or replaced. -- J.W.
