mysql.sock Gone?

It seems in /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock is gone, simply after a reboot??

I have tried commands like

su mysql
mysql_install_db
mysqld_safe &

To try and start it to get my mysql.sock back, and also rebooting....

I currently run Slackware 10, will a reinstall be necessary?

Thanks.

For all I know that file gets created each time mysql
starts? Not that I really use MySQL, mind you. Is your
/etc/rc.d.rc.mysql executable?

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: "The usual suspect?" :)

Yeah Good movie...

Well I did

Code:
bash-2.05b$ /etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld start
bash-2.05b$ Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysql/mysql.pid
041205 20:32:28 mysqld ended

But that happened?

What else?

My verison :

mysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.22, for slackware-linux (i486)

Is there a logfile in the /var dir somewhere ? Probably /var/lib/mysql/<hostname>.err ? Maybe it will give a clue what is going wrong...

The creation of databases went wrong somehow. They are probably created in a wrong directory since you typed su mysql . Try recreating them using su - mysql .
