Mozilla 1.3 + Java VM..

I wanna get Java VM working for Mozilla, so I can view type x-java-vm applets. But nothing I do seems to work. I installed j2re-1.4.2, then copied the libjavaplugin_oji.so to my ~/.mozilla/plugins dir but then Mozilla won't start .. just sits in the taskbar for a few seconds and then quits. Any ideas?
