ahhhh yes. the most commonly asked question
you have to edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and under the mouse section, include the lines
"Buttons" "5"
"ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
mine looks like this

make sure you have a space between the 4 and the 5 in the ZAxisMapping line...
