[ANNOUNCE] MLED and MLES are moving to CentOS as base distribution. This has already been brewing for quite some time now, and as much as I appreciate Slackware, I've hit a roadblock in developing some of the solutions I want to implement. I've spent quite some time weighing the pros and the cons of such a move, but I won't discuss the technical details behind my motivation any further, since they have already been discussed to their full extent, and even beyond.
The package repositories will be left in their present state for the time being, but there will be neither new additions nor updates. If you want to continue the project, feel free to check out the full source on Github:
This hasn't been a light-hearted decision, and I'm leaving Slackware with a heavy heart. I've grown quite fond of this distribution. This being said, I'll still use Slackware for teaching Linux basics in my training classes, and I'll always be wearing my Slackware t-shirts with a smile on my face.
Cheers from the sunny South of France,
Niki

sad to read, but after your latest blog posts I already thought that you will not continue MELD with Slackware as it's base, but I think for you business it seems to be the right decision, even if I do not understand how this should work if you yum remove kernel but very possible my französisch is not good enough to get the reason.
I've been trying out the centos version of MLED on one of my laptops and have to say it's pretty nice. Had to install XFCE and as I like that better, but even gnome 3 is nice.
Still have slack and MLED installed on another laptop running nicely.

This is way off-topic, but here's an answer to your question. On RHEL systems and derivatives, kernel upgrades don't remove the old kernels. As a result, they sometimes pile up, and the paragraph in question only explains how to clean up a bit.

Don't hesitate to post comments, suggestions and questions on the blog, in the Comments section. I do plan to fiddle with an Xfce version, but finishing the server section is my first priority.
I wish you all the best my friend as you transition your business from Slackware to CentOS. Thank you for your excellent work and support with the FOSS community.
