I installed 2.6.21.5-smp on my KT4V-L mobo.
Things seem almost OK but I get messages:
bttv0: i2c: checking for TDA9875 @ 0xb0... not found
and likewise for TDA7432 (8a), TDA9887 (96), and MSP34XX (80).
Since I have problems with xawtv sound I would like to know
1) what each of these modules is for
2) why were these not automatically loaded
3) where are they (directory) on the distribution disk so I can load them
Also I note that ic2 is needed for bttv but the only module loaded with my Slack 12.0 is i2c_viapro.
4) Is this the only i2c module needed?
5) bttv document expects btaudio but that is another module that is not on my system installation and I don't think I excluded it purposely. Is it replaced by some other module in 3.95?
Thanks

Reason: added query
look down load gspca http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html. then untar type make make install then moprobe gspca. then all will be well. this is the video modules for all them vidieo devices. if you cant compile it for some reason let me know i have that kernel running on one of my machines. and i have a copy of it.
Super! Downloaded it and will investigate further. Thanks.
This will likely solve my webcam problem but my questions primarily pertain to bttv and getting the xawtv to run.
I have found the missing modules in /lib/modules/2.6.21.5-smp/kernel/drivers/media/video
with one exception, namely tda9887.
1) I have read the man on depmod and could not determine if I were to depmod the missing modules if the existing modules.conf would be deleted first or if it would be appended to??
2) I found a tda9887.c in /usr/src/linux-2.6.21.5/drivers/media/video. Does this mean I need to compile this (since it was flagged as not found in the bootup messages) into a module them put it into /lib/modules ... ??
3) a) Since the "not found" messages were in the bootup messages, do I need to depmod all of them or should I just include them in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules?
well yes you can do a build on that module. makes me wonder why it wasnt already built in the modules that came with you should put your disk in and install the kernel-modules fro the disk. or compile them
Thanks for the email offer of the modules but I did find the modules (.ko) except for tda9887.ko which as I said is compilable, I presume. Is it possible that tda9887 is not needed by slack 12.0 and that that explains its omission?
I don't understand why since these modules exist they were not found on bootup?
I notice that in the how to's for webcam and bttv there are modules which don't appear when I lsmod. I don't know if this is because the newer kernels now negate their need. These include some i2c modules (i2c-algo-bit.ko), btaudio, and some that do not leap to mind. Do you or others have a list of "required" modules for bttv with slack 12.0?
download here http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html
then un-tar type make clean then type make install then modprobe videodev. then modprobe gspca from then on the kernel will see the device then insmod vediodev then it will then insmod the gspca this will happen during boot up from then on. Gspca runs about 95 percent of the everyday webcams good luck down load spcagui while your there it nice programe for pictures and movies. but every one uses the gspca xawtv bitv etc
