Md5sum Keeps turning up incorrect but consistent results!

I've downloaded it from different mirrors on the slackware website, from bit torrent, now im trying some link i found through google, EACH time, when i go "md5sum slackware-10.2-install-d1.iso" and do the same to the .md5 i get this number for the iso: 774e8ea9fe094e8f793c2452187d2723... and for the md5: 5d392562d3c1b27bda6f5a85fc94cac0...

How is this possible that downloading it from so many different places that it downloads the same? I've had this problem before but somehow i got enough of the install to work that i had a buggy but working slackware install.. this time i want to do it right. I'm using firefox 1.5 on windows xp, and i plan on burning it with iso recorder at half speed to make sure it goes right. any suggestions?

this is really driving me crazy, could it be the download manager of firefox messing it up or something? should I not save it to the desktop? should i not be browsing the internet while downloading? i must have downloaded all 600 something mb of it about a dozen times today! Is there a good reliable mirror I probably havent tried yet?

You don't have to get the MD5 sum of the .md5 file, but read the number inside it: cat file.md5

My copy of the ISO gives an md5sum of 774e8ea9fe094e8f793c2452187d2723 so your ISO is fine. Sounds like gbonvehi might be right - could you have md5sum'ed the md5 file instead of cat'ing it?

okay well, the iso checks out, but im getting installpkg errors! i've tried burning the cds at half speed as was suggested in some posts that i came up with from searching the forum, i've tried burning at 1x. I'm using ISO Recorder Power Toy for windows XP. my cd burner is about a year old and it works just fine burning cds and what not. However I understand it could possibly be bad. I'd like to make sure that there isn't something else that could be causing it though. I probably got about 10 or so installpkg errors on the main install disk, and 2 on the package disk.

this really sucks, i'm probably wasting so many cdrs. well i got through an installation, logging down what i thought were some important files or packages that didn't get past the installpkg errors such as: glibc-il8n-2.3.5-noarch5.tgz, jre-1_5_0_04-i586-2.tgz, x11-6.8.2-i486-3.tgz etc. when i got through configuring my installation etc (i set up lilo automatically like i've done before and save the information to the mbr) and i reboot my system but it booted up my windows xp hd instead without showing lilo.

i dont' know if these details will help but i have windows xp set up on a 74 gig raptor (sata), and i have a 40 gig ide that i'm trying to install slackware on. in my bios my primary ide's are my cdrw rom, and my dvd rom. and my secondary ide is the maxtor 40 gig hard drive. (i have it set up like this because my computer tried to boot up the ide hard drive when i made it the primary ide, instead of booting up my sata hard drive). i'm booting with test26.s, nousb, nohotplug. and i'm letting my cd burner do the reading for the install.

so if anyone can please help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

What's the installpkg error you were getting? Maybe someone else here has had similar problems...

My asus mob pc has sata and ide hds. I used bios to tell pc which hd to boot from. Ide hd is on one ide port and cdroms on another ide port. My boot order in bios is cdrom then ide hd then sata hd. And lilo at mbr of ide drive boots all oses. I installed libranet on the sata disk with sata installiso and xp and xandros on ide drive with default installer disk.
Slackware has several kernel options for install. Maybe installer is getting confused because of disk setup? Hopefully someone with setup similar to yours can offer clues.

the installpkg error im getting just tells me it could copy a file due to bad media, or the drive reading it wrong etc etc. so i figure either when im burning the iso there's a problem, or the drive itself has a problem, i tried installing with a old cd burner i had laying around but it produced the same problem. im going to try burning another iso with the old burner and see if that works... this is really annoying! i think i'll go buy a new cdburner in the near future. is there a way to verify the iso cd after it's been burned?
