I enjoy going to the Australasian equivalent when I can - accommodation and flights can add to the costs.
However I find the extraneous benefits (as mentioned in the "Convince your boss") worthwhile. Being able to "button-hole" people and have a face-to-face is so much better than watching the stream (if there is one), or reading the proceedings. When I go, I make it my yearly holidays to help defray the impact on the wallet.
