Thumbs up linode update to current success!

Wanted to report I updated my linode vps from 14.2 to current last night. Everything is working great!

I had one issue, my own fault, I didnt have libmnl installed, which ip requires, which means your box boots with no network! :-(

I used the linode rescue boot, wget'ed the package, installed it, reboot, and bam! I was golden.

I installed pkgtools and slackpkg first, then did 'export TERSE=0' before the big update. I very very much enjoyed the tiny output. Thank you all very much for that.

I run the smallest vm, so I run a trimmed down version (no X, no kde, etc, etc).

I used the basic:
slackpkg update
slackpkg upgrade pkgtools
slackpkg upgrade slackpkg
export TERSE=0
slackpkg install-new (unchecked a bunch of stuff, including libmnl)
slackpkg upgrade-all

Life is good, thanks slackers!

Thanks for the thread.

After seeing this post & following this, I installed Slackware64 -current on Linode. But not via an upgrade, rather through 2 volumes as a custom distro.

I wanted full disk encryption with lvm + luks, and a particular partitioning schematic also.

I made a page on the slackware wiki here.

Feel happy and peaceful to have this running neatly on a public cloud and thanks to all the gr8 work put in Slackware and Linode.

Regards,
Maha
