links -g

Ok here is the deal, I'm using slackware 12 and whenever i load up "links -g" in console and go to google.com i get this error:

Code:
Error when loading compiled-in font: png_do_rgb_to_gray found nongray pixel.
libpng error: png_do_rgb_to_gray found nongray pixel
Aborted
I had no problems viewing google in slack 11 with links. How do i fix this?

"Libpng 1.2.18 is buggy and causes Links to crash with "png_do_rgb_to_gray found nongray pixel". PATCH-libpng-1.2.18 inside links-*.tar.* allows fixing this and using 1.2.18."

I didn't see the patch, so it looks like you'll have to build version 1.2.19 from source.

http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...?group_id=5624

And/or at least send Pat an email advising him Slackware needs an update, the Slackware current changelog shows latest version 1.2.18

The patch for libpng-1.2.18 is inside the links tarball. You'd need to apply it to the libpng sources and recompile/install them. It may be just as well to use the latest stable version of libpng, but maybe not. libpng has had some API changes over time and they may not be done with changing it yet. Some programs that depend on libpng may need to be recompiled against the new libs. That said, the most likely thing is that using the new version wil cause no problems or extra work.

So basicly i'm going to have to remove both the links and libpng packages from slack and then download the sources of both said and apply the patches . I really hope this doesnt break anything but i'm no stranger to rolling my own anyway. I'll have a go at it later and see if that fixes the problem.
