$TERM is set to xterm on the host, but on my local machine it is set that way also, as it is on other hosts, and on other hosts with TERM set to xterm, it works fine. If I use terminal or xterm it does the same thing. I use putty to connect it doesn't display the lines correctly unless I change the remote character set to UTF-8. I seem to be missing something here...
Edit: In rxvt it does the same thing. And it is only this one remote - all the other boxes I ssh into will display mc lines just fine.
