I am trying to get LILO back because i reinstalled windows ( boo! my billionth time probably ). All the other times, i ended up reinstalling slack. Not this time. I want to get LILO back. I have no clue how to do this, however, and would like some insight. Here is my progress so far:
I'm booted on the first Slackware disc, logged in and all. I have mounted /dev/hda3 (my linux / partition ) to /mnt/hda3 ( :heh: ) , and i am stuck here.
Any help/bashing/praises will be appreciated greatly ^^
as far as i know, if the partitions have not changed you should be able to run /sbin/lilo as root to install it. you can also edit /etc/lilo.conf to make sure everything in it is ok. i think you can also run liloconfig, also in the /sbin directory.
Yeah, just run liloconfig again. Then lilo -v -t (verbose, test) to see that everything is alright. If so then just run lilo to reinstall it.
However, which windows are you running. If you are using /NT/XP/W2K you will probably need to use grub instead of lilo. If you are using win95/95 it's easy to dual boot. Just install 98 first then install linux and install lilo. You can install it to the MBR, however it is much safer and stable to install it to a floppy. Just be sure to make extras.
You'll have to run liloconfig and install lilo somewhere - probab the MBR - to get you back to linux. Then edit lilo.conf to add windows. Lilo will work with XP and any other windows. I use it on my MBR and have no problems - unless you can't mount and run liloconfig. Let us know if you have problems or if you get things sorted out...
