Been having problems with bespoke forms in base. The arrow button on the right hand side of drop-down boxes is so small I'm having trouble seeing it.

For my setup a massive improvement was to export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=qt5 before starting libreoffice --base

I've edited in /etc/profile.d/libreoffice.sh accordingly

A consequence of this is that it makes base's dialogue boxes a little bit small. I think I can cope with that.

Has anyone else had trouble with the spell checker in LibreOffice-7.3.1.
It just plain doesn't work.
I researched this, via the Internet, before posting this message, but none of the suggestions found solve the problem.
Thanks.

How are you trying to use the spell checker?

If I write a text doc with incorrect words, they are highlighted with a squiggly underline. If I then select Tools->Spelling (or just F7 key) a popup dialog shows the document contents with the first detected misspelling highlighted, along with a list of suggested corrections. As I correct an instance, the next misspelling is highlighted, etc.

Where is your LibreOffice from? Does it include a dictionary?

My LibreOffice Tools->Extension Manager shows I have "English spelling, hyphenation dictionaries and thesaurus 2020.08.01" installed for the current user (not Bundled with LibreOffice). I guess that's why it works as expected for me.

The Extension Manager has a link to "Get more extensions online". I just followed it and found a newer version of the one I have installed. When I clicked on its Download button I was invited to save it or open with LibreOffice. I chose the latter, which opened a LO dialog box asking whether to overwite the existing version.

I think you need to do something like that i.e. install a dictionary.

Did you obtain LO from Alienbob or SlackBuilds.org?

Did you compile it yourself?

Do the settings in Tools -> Options -> Language Settings -> Writing Aids look good

LibreOffice and the appropriate dictionary are from Alienbob.
All settings appear to be correct.

Installed libreoffice and libreoffice-dict-en from Alien Bob's repository, opened an English document, pressed 'F7' and was able to spell-check the document. I got suggestions for all the non-english words (mostly abbreviations). I don't see anything wrong or broken.

Just curious, I've noticed that a lot of folks on here are using slackbuilds or builds for LibreOffice. Is there a downside to using the AppImage directly from the website?

Removed all traces of libreoffice (using removepkg) including the user configuration file, rebooted and re-installed. Still the spell checker does not work.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. At this point it isn't worth any more effort.
Thanks, again.

Good question!
I haven't used any of the new package formats, but would be interested in hearing how well they work (or don't work) in Slackware.
