I usually just use the pre-built libreoffice binaries and install avahi from SBo. Avahi is a runtime dependency so there's really no need to rebuild libreoffice specifically for avahi unless you absolutely don't want it enabled.
Sometimes all I want is to get up and running with writer/calc as quickly as possible so I skip avahi.

What about it? That'll resolve the avahi problem but my use case centers around writer/calc so the avahi thing never really comes up. I also tend to avoid alienbob's repo simply because I customize my install in ways that is often incompatible with his packages. And watching gcc output is more fun than fighting with everyone else for bandwidth to his mirrors.
