I'm not entirely sure. If I remember correctly, using anything different from GTK2 was causing painful slowdowns. And it didn't matter if I used the repackaged official binaries, Eric's build or if I built on my own.
There were some small speed differences between the different builds, but still, the most noticeable difference was switching to GTK2 and
disabling OpenGL.
