LabPlot and other KDE applications

I saw there was recently an update of a KDE application called LabPlot

https://labplot.kde.org/

I was surprised when I didn't find it in the slackware KDE's package tree, and then I noticed that it is not the only one from KDE's umbrella missing. For example, the Trojità mail client, the libmpv mediaplayer Haruna, all the stuff from MAUI and some others.

The list of KDE applications I'm taking as reference is this one https://apps.kde.org/
It seems to be a mix of "KDE Gear" applications, which have a fixed release schedule together with the plasma desktop and frameworks, and other programs whose release is independent (like Krita)

So, seeing that the applications in question, LabPlot, seems a really cool tool that could be very useful for researchers and academia people, and also acknowledging that slackware bundles A LOT of kde stuff (i previously thought that it was really including the complete KDE ecosystem), I was wondering why LabPlot and other KDE applications are not included in slackware (while krita is).

I understand that one cannot bundle every software in the world because space on the DVD is limited, so there has been a sort of "selection process" of what was cool to bundle and what was not. For example I personally would leave the MAUI stuff out since they seems focused on the plasma mobile experience (and they are also still in beta), but a nice tool like LabPlot I would definitely want included.

What are your thoughts on this topic?

I don't know what BDFL thinks about this, but there is a SlackBuild for LabPlot (for 15.0). Not difficult to roll your own.

I counted 240 applications on that page, and that's without the desktop components of kde. I'm guessing pat decided to draw an arbitrary line on what he wants to package and maintain for the whole kde package set in slackware?

When Eric was supplying ktown, there were some more applications included. Pat slimmed down the list when he took it over, so I'm guessing that same logic applies to why things like labplot arn't included. Something like labplot seems more useful than the mr.potatohead game that used to come with ktown, but I guess it depends on the demographic...

Labplot is not part of the KDE applications tree, so unless Pat V wants to include it, like in the case of DigiKam, do like I do, build it yourself. I am using the latest version 2.9.0. One mention of note, in the previous version readstat was built within the build if not found already installed. For me, it failed on that point, I simply built and installed readstat 1.1.8 and the build was successful.

I don't use SBo, I create my own scripts.

Ok so that is what i thought, that since it's not part of the "Gear" group, like Krita and Digikam, its inclusion is only a matter of personal preference.

I was just a little puzzled about the exclusion because a whole bunch of little games and little utilities are there, while this one, which seems to be a killer application for data visualization and study, is not.

I have no problems building my own, but i think i'm going to try to suggest its inclusion in the request for -current thread.

Thank'you all for sharing your thoughts
