KDE / X Restarting or Hang

Hello & thanks for reading. Currently I am running Slackware-Current and after the the 2.6.29.6 kernel upgrade followed by the X upgrade this week, I'm having stability issues that I haven't been able to decipher. Here are some notes & observations:

Software Versions:
Slackware-Current
KDE 4.2.4
Xorg 1.6.2
nvidia driver: 180.44 (I also tried 185.18l.14)
Hardware:
nvidia GEForce 8200 card

The problem is a persistent restart of X back to the KDM login prompt when logging in as 1 specific user during run level 4. If I enter X from run level 3 a hang is more typical.

2) I can circumvent the problem (for the most part) by starting KDE in fail safe mode using the check box offered at the KDM login prompt. I have been unable to reproduce the problem in XFCE but I think it has more to do with high end graphics features (transparency for example) than the fact that another window manager was used.

3) It appears *not* to be an issue for other users (not nearly as used as mine though) or during a graphical root login (yes, a bad idea but I tested it . This doesn't make sense to me and may have more to do with high end graphics features not being used as much on my wife and kids accounts.

4) I have explored ~/.xsession-errors. I see kmsserver errors and all KDE child are recorded as killed at the end of the file. I will try to add this after recreating. Right now I'm logged in using fail safe mode the information is not pertinent.

5) I definitely seems related to transparency (task manager and superkarmba theme). Although, glxgears shows nvidia driver is working at a higher FPS.

6) I typically let the nvidia install set xorg.conf. In the case below I did add the Exensions section at the end with no luck.

I would appreciate advice on how to methodically solve this problem. In addition, I'm also interested in backing off of the 1.6.2 version of Xorg and Xf86 updates last Thursday. I'm not certain where I would get those packages as rsync has deleted my prior versions?!?

Thanks,
Rich

A couple of updates...

1) Installing version xorg-server_1.6.1-2 may help some but still instable.

2) Here is the last 25 lines or so of my .xsession-errors output. Notice the failure notes about ksmserver.

There have been a number of problems with KDE since the last but one update to current, this might in some way be related, but then again ....

Anyway try downgrading pixman to the previous version 15.10 I think.
