KDE Desktop trash icon full/empty repair

Eventually the Trash icon gets stuck on `user-trash-full` when there are no files in the trash folder and the Empty Trash option in the context menu is inactive. I simply right-click, move the icon to the Trash, open Dolphin and drag the Trash icon in the left-hand column onto the desktop.

Does anyone know why the new trash icon does that after a day or two?

I haven't used KDE since waaay back @v3.15; however, I was wondering if it still allows you to adjust its settings by RIGHT clicking on the can and choosing Properties. You used to be able to adjust the size limit to how much crap you can put in the can with that setting.

Plasma 5.22.3 - Trash size is in Dolphin under Preferences|Trash|Limit to. I'm using the Oxygen icon set. The desktop icon gets stuck on full in a matter of a few hours. I'm used to moving the icon into Trash, then dragging a fresh icon from Dolphin onto the desktop. Maybe there's a spell to cast that only the Dolphin wizards learn from the master programmer?

I've had intermittent issues in Xfce for years with Oxygen icons. You might try to change your icon preferences for a while and see if that makes a diff.

The easiest solution is to use Dolphin Settings and check the box to add "Delete" to your menues. I never use "Trash" and that motivates me to be less cavalier about actually removing something. If I'm certain, one step... gone... no follow up. Commonly, in the rare instance I'm unsure, I rename it or copy to a temp location and delete it once I know there is no blowback.

I consider Trash a lazy form of planning on failure.

Seems there are issues with Oxygen, perhaps with vestiges of gtk? Not sure if that's needed with Plasma's investment in Qt. Best solution: switch to a theme that follows the least-astonishment rule.
[I've restored too many trashed files to delete without a net.]

PS. In System Configuration, when I change the Icons to any other theme, the desktop changes immediately. With a fresh user, choosing the Oxygen icon theme updates the system configuration, but does not change the desktop.

Addendum: The rest of the story

I downloaded Oxygen from invent.kde.org, set cmake-gui to Release, built and installed it: Problem vanished, Trash icons restored to working order. I probably messed up some configuration somewhere, but reinstalling the Slackware package did not address the issue.
