I wasn't aware of the Kpackage and other faults.
I suppose the 'kdesu kpackage' workaround will do. Wonder if it's a change in
the way KDE is functioning, or something Pat did specifically to enable it
in the stock version.
I've read several places that when upgrading from Slacware 10.2's KDE to the latest 3.5 "most" KDE applications' settings are lost. Can anyone confirm this problem, and is there a workaround to prevent this prior to upgrading?
Finally, does anyone know if this is due to lack of backwards compatibility in the new 3.5, or if I should wait for Pat to make a 3.5 package available in order a) to maintain consistency on my box and b) avoid all the apparent problems? Anyone?
Quick question about these packages. Do they include all the packages needed for a clean install of KDE 3.5, or do you need to have the 3.4.x packages already installed in order to use them? I didn't install KDE when I first installed Slackware 10.2 and then followed the instructions in this thread, however, when I now do a "startx" I get a very generic-looking X dialogue box that loads, indicating that it can't locate "KPersonalizer." The only option is an "Ok" button, which kicks back out to the terminal prompt. Any clarification or suggestions would be much appreciated.
10.2 and after update to KDE 3.5.. other things missing..
First starting with confirmation of that kpackage is working if using kdesu kpackage.
Second:
Menu incl all programs installed and listed before update from 3.4.2 --> 3.5
Confirmed that most of the programs are now missing
Major issue for me (newbie as I am) however is the fact that RPM db is corrupt.
Installation of staroffice failed due to /bin/sh is missing
Running the sh filename.sh selecting path towhere I want to unpack the package to (used the default /var/tmp/suggested_defaultdir)
Once done installer starts fine, selecting options (complete installation)
on first core file which is staroffice-core01-8.0.0-124.i586.rpm it says /bin/sh is missing.
This is not true, it is there and is working fine
So far I've tried with
ldd /bin/sh
" linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000)
libtermcap.so.2 => /lib/libtermcap.so.2 (0xb7f55000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/tls/libdl.so.2 (0xb7f50000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0xb7e34000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7f71000)"
Had the same issue on two computers.
Anyone had the same issue or similar, and also knows how to rebuild the RPM db?
