K3b doesn't burn w/Slackware 10

Hello. I have installed k3b by compiling from source. The program starts up and I can put together a CD and attempt to burn it. Each time at 50% complete (this is the point at which the actual burning should start) I get an error : cdrecord returned an unknown error (code 2).
No such file or directory. When I ask to see debuging information I get the following:
System
-----------------------
K3b Version:0.11.18
KDE Version: 3.2.3
QT Version: 3.3.3

cdrecord
-----------------------
pregap1: -1
/usr/bin/cdrecord: No such file or directory. No read access for '/home/Jay/temp/k3b_audio_0_08.wav'.

cdrecord comand:
-----------------------
/usr/bin/cdrecord -v gracetime=2 dev=0,0,0 speed=2 -dummy -eject -useinfo -pad -shorttrack -audio /home/Jay/temp/k3b_audio_0_01.wav /home/Jay/temp/k3b_audio_0_02.wav /home/Jay/temp/k3b_audio_0_03.wav /home/Jay/temp/k3b_audio_0_04.wav /home/Jay/temp/k3b_audio_0_05.wav /home/Jay/temp/k3b_audio_0_06.wav /home/Jay/temp/k3b_audio_0_07.wav /home/Jay/temp/k3b_audio_0_08.wav

I don't know what this means. I get the same error if I run k3b as a regular user or as root. Any help would be appreciated as I am so close, but so far away. Thanks, Jay.

did you install the cdecord package when you installed.

run this in an xterm/console (you may have to do this as root):

cdrecord -scanbus

Thanks for the quick reply. I did not install cdrecord as it seems to already be installed as part of cdrtools. According to /var/log/packages I have cdparanoia, cdrdao and cdrtools. Also, when I configured lilo during install I did something (can't remember the exact command) to make my ide cd writer look like a scsi device. Does that help at all? Thanks, Jay.

Only if you're using the default kernel, 2.4.26. Otherwise, you should NOT have that.

sorry i misread your post. It's telling you that you do not have permissions to read /home/Jay/temp/xxx

since you said you've tried as root try moving those wav files to another directory (permission denied problems can come from file system problems)

usually I invoke k3b with:

su -c /opt/kde/bin/k3b
then type my passwd so cdrecord can work correctly

Affirmative on the default kernel, not brave enough to step up to 2.6 yet.

Did you run k3bsetup as root. This should look for the needed programs and address any permissions.

when I set up Xcdroast from source i had to set up symlinks for certain programs like cdrtools, cdrecord, etc. from /usr/local/bin to /usr/bin. just ln -s from to. Should be all set.
