Ok i got an isa sound card im using slack 9.1 kernel 2.4.22 and i dont know how to get it working. I had it working when i was using 9.0 but i had to delete my whole system. Anyways i would like to get it working without alsa, alsa doesnt like me for some reason. last time i did a pnpdump isapnp.conf i did that again but i dont know what i need to comment out??? Anyways SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME!!!!!!!!
Ok i also have another problem i recently updated kernel 2.4.20 to 2.4.22 and i was trying to do a modprobe and i get this error:
root@DarkPunk:/etc# modprobe sound
modprobe: Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.4.20/modules.dep (No such file or directory)
it appears its looking in the old kernel for modules i dont think it should be doing that shouldnt it be looking in 2.4.22 not 2.4.20?? Anyways how would i change that?? Thanx
Distribution: Slack Puppy Debian DSL--at the moment.

You missed a step somewhere in your kernal compile. One of the steps is "make dep".
That is your linker to the new objects (modules).
Frankly, I don't know that much about alsa. If I had it in front of me I probably could figure it out. I thought every distro has a sound configuration tool? Doing it by hand is a pain and offers many different ways to hose it up.
I would also recommend getting a PCI soundcard. If you shop at the right places, you can get a soundcard that's better than yours for free after rebates.
Ya but i didnt compile it. Its 2.4.22 i just upgraded to 9.1 and it upgraded it for me so it must be something else?? nope not for sound cards well slackware doesnt the only thing it really has is alsa and thats not really a config tool anyways its not hard to use its just thats i used alsa before with MDK and it was horrible the volume wasnt high enough. It was just hell last time wheni used just hte isapnp.conf file to uncomment lines in hte .conf file it was soo much better and louder.. Anyways SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME
Thanx for ur reply
run alsaconf as root, and if it says there's no file, create a blank file w/ something like PICO, and then run alsaconf, alsamixer, alsactl store, and then it should hopefully be set up. That is, of course, after you fix your kernel problem.
