Is video4Lin in new kernel?

Hi. I want to get TV working on linux. If I upgrade to the new kernel will this have support for tv built in or should I already have it in kernel 2.4.18?
XAWTV has a patch. Is this a good idea or should I just build a new kernel?

Im using Slack8.1

thanks

it's been in every 2.4 kernel to my knowledge. maybe it's just not compiled by your kernel defaults
