Is there (do we need) a GUI/tui to create symlinks for the /etc/rc.d/rc?.d directories?
I'm still thinking about software which installs scripts to /etc/rc.d/init.d/
Yeah, I can make the necessary symlinks to rc?.d directories myself, but just after a while I thought that it may be useful to have a gui/tui for it, similar to netconfig.
Does anyone think it's a good idea?
(I actually mostly consider this as an exercise in Bash scripting, but anyway it's better to do any exercise knowing that I'm not doing it just for myself.)
The /etc/rc.d/init.d/ is a compatibility feature for the alien packages which expects a SysV init system like the historical Fedora or RedHat, and not the Slackware native one.
So, nope. I do not think that an GUI/TUI to edit this feature is a good idea.
BTW, the Slackware is about doing things in the old good way: manually.

Or, for stuff that you're not packaging, just create the symlinks manually. It's not a regular occurrence, so the effort/energy is probably not worth expending.
That said, if you were to create a text-based tool, I'd most likely download it. I like having tools for specific jobs.

OP: you keep it as a secret which distro you use, you mention it neither in your profile nor in your question. Maybe that is to keep the discussion lively?
Anyway, Debian based distros already have update-rc.d which takes care of this symlinking.

Then it is fairly stupid of me that I did not notice it. When looking at "Latest threads" it can be seen of course in which forum a thread resides. But it is not that obvious like in consciously entering the Slackware forum.
