I'd say that the best way to contribute would be to be active here at LQ. There are many threads here for suggestions/requests/etc for Slackware.

A quick perusal of the Slackware changelog indicates that many updates included in Slackware have come from LQ members, like LuckyCyborg, GazL, Lockywolf, nobodino, and many more.

A good start would probably be:

- Download and use Slackware Current, the dev branch of Slackware (for testing purpose, it is said )
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ts-4175709111/

- makes requests for additions to Slackware Current:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...-a-4175706801/

- Report SBo issues (Slackbuilds.org):
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ls-4175561999/

- Report CVE or patches you found:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ch-4175708118/

- Follow the last changelog and report the problems if it's the case
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...nt-4175698890/

In all case, feel free to create your own dedicated thread ;-)

You may also contribute to Slackware in general by looking at https://slackbuilds.org/ for software to extend the pure Slackware.

@wingfy:
I have one for you---
Research out and develop a " How to.." for Chinese and other non-Roman
character input for Slackware.

Many of us once used SCIM to input Chinese characters.
The developers of scim got tired and did not develop scim for qt5,
and thus scim became less useful.
Now there are some alternatives such as "fcitx" which is
what I use but it is "not easy" to configure fcitx and get it working right.
I don't quite remember how i got fcitx to work. It wasn't easy
and there was obsolete advice.

There is "ibus" which I have no idea how to use.
Some Linuces can use the popular Sogou but I dont know
how to make it work in Slackware.
Fcitx has a new version. The developers of Fcitx don't have
good English and their help info is quite opaque.

Dugan once had a great how-to for scim, but scim was nearly dead
the last time I looked and nothing has taken the place of
that How-To as far as I know.

This is actually solid advice, didn't realize that such a guide doesn't exist.
I got fcitx5 working also, thought I should do a guide

我也成功在Slackware上設定好fcitx5,應該要把過程紀錄下來的。感謝您的建議。

Cheers,

Hi Dr. Zhu

Emmm, I use slackware as server and not for desktop daily use. None-ASCII input method in terminal is not convenient.

The Sogou input method is adapted for Ubuntu20.04 and in other words, it is adapted for GNOME 3.3X.
But, Slackware does not support GNOME officially.
However, you could install it in other ways as many slackers did.

GNONE is built on top of GTK and i guess that Sogou could be used in some desktop envronments based on gtk,
slackware also contains some desktop environments based on GTK such as xfce, so you could install xface and sogou for a try.

And i found the scim contained in slackware 15.0, you could also have a try.

"ibus" is a lowlevel input framework and it is for developer.

Slackbuilds.org contains the Fcitx, have you tried it? :-)

Thank you for your message.
