Is there a special reason why Patrick's mkinitrd script now recommends 2 crc32 modules?

I just installed a new kernel on Slackware-current and noticed a couple of new recommended modules for the initrd that involve crc32c. I gather from DDG that this has something to do with calculating checksums.

What is the purpose of this recommendation?

I didn't look at that yet but not totally blind guess: it could be to support a root partition with a f2fs file system.

If the added modules are crc32_generic and crc32_pclmul this would confirm that (I add these modules to Slint's initrd in this aim).

PS To illustrate this I attach a diff between /var/log/setup.01.mkinitrd in Slackware-current and in Slint.

File Type: txt setup.01.mkinitrd.diff.txt (3.7 KB, 17 views)

On my machine it's crc32_generic and crc32_intel.

I found this threw some light on the subject for me.
