Unhappy ip-up + knetload

I am trying to get ip-up to start knetload after my connection is made. I have placed </opt/kde/bin/knetload> in the ip-up script but it never gets run. If I run ip-up manually after the connection is made, knetload starts as root. I also tried adding a path to kmail, it also does not start, so it appears that ip-up is not getting run. I have a script that I placed in ip-down to kill knetload and it works, so ip-down is ok. I am using Slackware 9.0, kde 3.1.3, and kernel 2.4.20. Does anyone know how pppd starts ip-up, for example is there an option that I need to pass? I am using demand dialing and can connect fine, also I can connect with kppp. Thanks, Terry
