installing plextor dvd

I've just bought a Plextor DVD burner and I'm not too sure what the first step, aside from the physical installation, would be to get it working with Slack9.1. Can someone get me in the right direction for that? Once I get home after the holidays I'd like to get into it right away.
Thanks for the help and Merry Christmas!
