well, i have installed it before on thsi computer that i am trying to install it on. but i have totaly f'ed the install, and need to just obliterate everything on the harddrive. and well i cant get it to boot from the boot disks, because 1 my cd drive doesnt boot automaticly 2 i cant find the boot disk i used before. they were in a set of 5 do you guys know what im talking abuot? thanks and any other sejestions to install without cd boot suport. thanks
If you have an IDE cdrom drive, go into the bios and see if you can change the boot order to boot off the cd. It's gonna be the easiest way to install. If all else fails, you'll have to either find the boot disks, or make new ones. The images are usually found on a Slack mirror. Poke around the ftp or http archives and read the readmes. I would tell more but honestly I forgot. I'm gonna have to make meself a set of 9.1 disks soon....meh
ok the system i have is so old that it doesnt have the bios to change the boot order. i did get some boot disks and tryed booting it that way but then i got an error that said something about a bad boot up or what not, couldnt boot, i dunno something like that. im making the boot disks on a 2000 computer.
Post a little more detail. And how old is the computer???? I've installed Linux off cd onto a 386 before. It had a 5.25" floppy drive and all. And it could boot off the cdrom drive. But you know how to make the boot floppies? Where to find the images, and how to write them to floppies?
this is like a compaq prolinea 575, and the mobo doesnt let me boot to a cd drive. i have put in the network card so yeah. i made the floppys from the files in to rootdisk, and a bootdisk and it still doesnt work.
What kind of problem are you having though? Give me a little more detail. Are the floppies not working? Does it not boot into the install? I think there are one boot disk and two root disks. Then extra floppies for pcmcia and non-bire.i kernel supported network cards. But once you get the floppies working you should be able to install of the cd. If not, i guess you'll have to do a network install.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense....I'm a little stoned....but yeah....give that a wack and if you have any problems don't hesitate to ask.
