Install fonts?

I mounted my windows 2000 drive, and copied the entire winnt/fonts directory to my user home directory on Slack 10.
My question is how do I install them so programs like GIMP, and web browsers, office apps etc. can use them WITHOUT hosing my system?

I assume you're interested in ttf fonts.
Make sure the name of the fonts you need to install are lowercase, then copy them to
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/
then (as root)
/usr/X11R6/bin/fc-cache
or
reboot the computer.
The fonts then will be available for the desktop and many applications.
Most apps require locally to update the fonts list (ie open office).
Hope this helps
Ciao

If you use KDE, you can install them with the KDE font installer.

Ipolit, the method you suggested only makes the fonts available to one user and not all other users on the system.

Oh yeah, i get what you mean, he didn't install globally in the first place, so your method was right in this instance.
