Originally posted by r_jensen11 I wonder if I can get my computer to have graphics accel.... It's 5 years old, has a 5 year old video card.... It couldn't hurt, could it?
I am thinking the same thing since ive been reading this forum, probably all the talk about configuring X i think.
Im not looking for a total walk through, just something besides man X.
Im only running a geforce2 64meg card, but i'd like to try see what i could do to make it run a bit better.
Did you log in to x as root or did u log in as a user and su to root? If you logged in as a user, you need to run fglrxinfo as that user otherwise it won't see the display. There's a way to get around it which eludes me at the moment (I'm half asleep).

I would back up the /etc/X11/XF86Config file, then run xf86config (the program) and set up the video stuff, save it preferably as a different file, then copy over the video stuff to your XF86Config file, then uncomment the line where it has the amount of memory for the video card, and also uncomment the line for graphics accel. I need to compare more, but I think XFCE4 runs more smoothly(at least for when the toolbars scroll, since I have them both on autohide), and I think it might actually load more quickly. Anyway, I've got a question about DRI, but I suppose I'd better search first....
[fglrx] Maximum main memory to use for locked dma buffers: 431 MBytes.
[fglrx:firegl_stub_register] *ERROR* Fire GL kernel module has to be loaded prior to any other DRM kernel module!
Any idea what I should do?
Thanks.
EDIT: I'm not using Slackware, I'm using LFS. I don't that will change much, but thought I'd mention it.
EDIT #2: I have a feeling it's just a matter of adding fglrx to be loaded at boot, before any other modules. Though... whenever I do a random lsmod, nothing is shown.
EDIT #3: Ok, I've been making quite a few changes, but to no avail. I'm going to start a new post for my issue. Thanks everyone.

Originally posted by Kristijan I seem to have everything working, lsmod shows both agpgart and fglrx. Only thing that I can't seem to figure out is this...
Code:
root@neo:~# fglrxinfo
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
Error: unable to open display :0
root@neo:~#
I tried to export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0 but it still dosen't work...
Any idea's?
while you are logged in as yourself...type in xhost +localhost
this gives root access to the X display or something technical like that
