hello, i'm a pretty much a newbie and I needed some help, I want to install slack only to use mplayer and xmms, i was also thinking of using xfce as the default window manager.
since i will be using linux only for that porpouse I wante to know what are the basic libraries and apps I will need to make everithing work using the least disk space possible
by the way, I have slack 9.0
tnx
Well, you can use mpg123 to play mp3s from the command line, so you don't need xmms, or xfce, or even X. mplayer can also play movies on the console or framebuffer. Try 'mplayer -vo help' for a list of devices you can use.
Slack packages are sorted into groups. The 'a' group is what you absolutely need to run Linux. The 'x' group is what you need for X. You will find xfce in the 'xap' group. I think it's only one package. Not sure where mplayer or xmms are or what libraries they need.
