How to print to a remote printer on 515 port using lpr ?

I was very surprised to see how easy it was to print from windows command line to a network printer:

lpr -S 192.168.0.117 -P PLT02H filename

As it is a large Xerox plotter we have configured a queue PLT02H for our specific needs.

Now I want to do the same with Slackware 12.1 boxes. :

lpr -H 192.168.0.117:515 -P PLT02H 12040050.hpgl

does nothing. No errors or any messages at all. I can ping the printer from the pc so there is a network connection. When I try
-H 192.168.0.117 (without the port) the program exits and says
lpr: Connection refused

I searched for a possible configuration tips on the web but found none useful.

Any ideas ?

Hi

Normally you would configure cups (common unix printing system) to do all your network printing for you, it is said to be easier than using lpr.

You can then print from the command line with lpr-cups.

It has been a long time since I had a network printer but cups made it easy for me.
