How to Port the system to LUKS

So I have a ThinkPad T60 with an unencrypted harddrive with the following partitions:

/
/home
/tmp
swap

I'm thinking about encrypting the whole hard drive, so the new partition will look like this:

/boot
/(luks volume with LVM) the LVM will contain a root volume, a home volume, tmp volume, and swap volume.

I'm also planning on switching from a reiserFS to JFS. I have a 1TB RAID 1 enclosure to which I can back up my system in order to set up LUKS on the laptop hard drive.

My question is what's the best way to back up my system and to port back on to JFS partitions, which will be set up in LVM?

In order to start over with LUKS/LVM you will have to wipe all data on the machine. I would backup your /home and /etc to an external hard disk and start a fresh Slackware installation from scratch.

You can of course backup all of your / ; do a minimal installation of Slackware (same version as you already had installed) and after reboot, copy everything back from the external harddisk, overwriting (almost) all you just installed. But in that case you will have to know exactly how to do this in order not to screw it up.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking. The fstab entries are going to be different, but everything else should pretty much work.
