How to install all packages in the install CD slackware

Hi all,

i have install slackware successfully.
I am currently installing software but if the software requires additional libraries, i need to look into the slackbuild, download and install libraries or packages before i can continue.

I google and found that the packages can be found in the cd. I want to install/update all the available packages from the CD into the current installed Slackware.

Any guidance what is the approach?

Thanks

A full install of Slackware usually contains all packages from the DVD, only a few are missing, mostly language packages for KDE and a few applications from the /extra directory. Packages that are mentioned on the SlackBuilds.org website or in the .info-files as dependencies/required are never part of the official Slackware repository.
Having said that, some packages from /extra can be installed the usual way (using installpkg or slackpkg), while others (like JAVA, for example) have to be manually build by the user due to license restrictions.

The following instructions from UPGRADE.TXT (file is available in the root directory of Slackware CD) should do the trick. Adjust the list of directories to install as necessary (ex: remove k if you don't want to compile your own kernel - that will save some space).

Quote:
3. Upgrade everything else (and install new packages):

upgradepkg --install-new /root/slackware/*/*.t?z

If you wish to upgrade everything except for the KDEI language
packs for KDE (these take a lot of space and can be dealt with
after the main upgrade more quickly and easily), running this
script in the "slackware" directory will do the trick:

#!/bin/sh
for dir in a ap d e f k kde l n t tcl x xap xfce y ; do
( cd $dir ; upgradepkg --install-new *.t?z )
done
