In addition to what Lysander666 had already explained, you can only use slackpkg to download and install official packages only. If you want to use slackpkg with third party repository (for example multilib repositories) you can try slackpkg+ for adding that functionality

No I would never use SlackBuilds I would go the slackware way the ones provided by NVIDIA.
If you have a modern card that does not require legacy drivers. I would use the slackware doc method.
if you use slackware and run a intrid.gz for generic kernel I wrote a script to Uninstall driver for kernel upgrade and build the driver for the new installed kernel before you reboot.
must be ran runlevel 3

If you use SlackBuilds then read carefully about nvidia-switch.

Uninstall the nvidia driver before updating Mesa because you will make a mess and you will have to manually remove it if you don't. It will be some of the same files you'll have to remove if you mess up with nvidia-switch with the Slackbuild: https://slackbuilds.org/repository/1...nvidia-driver/
