How do I use boot disk to access my Hard drive?

I screwed something up and now get a black screen when KDM starts. I have used a boot cd to boot and change the runlevel but how do I get to my hard drive after using the boot disk?
I have tried mount /dev/hda1 and stuff like that but I cannot get to the partition on my HD to modify xorg or the runlevel.
Thanks.

Please post what you have done (exact commands) to mount and access your hard drive. Also, please specify which user you are using to execute those commands. That might give me some useful information so that I can better help you.

Thanks.

Boot with Slackware CD1 and at the prompt enter, like this >
boot: bare.i root=/dev/hda1 noinitrd ro
changing hda1 to your root partition if different.
This will boot you into your Slackware system, then you can
change whatever you like.

I did that and changed xorg.conf back to the settings it was at and I am still getting a black screen around the time KDM starts.
I am going to try and run xorgconfig and check to see if my kvm switch got damaged.

Sounds like you are chasing the wrong dog. Sounds more like a framebuffer issue if you aren't even seeing the kdm login screen.

That only loads the harddrive as Read Only, boot with

bare.i root=/dev/hda1 noinitrd

and then edit the file and retry
