How do I mount hard drives after booting from the Slack DVD?

Hi all,

I may possibly have to restore the MBR for my Windows hard drive, which will overwrite LILO making it impossible for me to boot into Linux.

Is it possible for me to boot from the Slackware DVD and mount my hard drives from there? If so, where is the mount point?

I'd assume the command would be
Code:
mount -t jfs /dev/sda1 ???
where ??? is the directory I'd mount to. Does the DVD have a directory I could mount to?

Should I just make my bootable flash drive and not worry about it?

Thanks,

-Drew

"mkdir /directoryname" will make a directory in your root files system and then try mounting it with "mount /dev/devicename /directoryname" if it asks for the type of filesystem you use a command like "mount -t jfs /dev/devicename /directoryname" (if it is a jfs filesystem)

I you loose lilo from the MBR - rather than muck about mounting your drives it's much easier to boot with the install media and look at the instructions. You may boot to the installed root drive, for example dev/sda2, like this at boot up:-
Code:
hugesmp.s root=/dev/sda2 rdinit= ro
Like I said there are instructions when booting up the install disks. You enter that at the "boot:" prompt. You will than be booted back into your Slackware installation.
